It’s hard to call Demeter a ‘fragrance’ company in the true sense of the words. Demeter has brought us such quirky scents as Rain, Play-Doh, Dirt, Grass and Crayon. Now they’ve brought out their Vintage Naturals range (available only in the US at present, but give it time…) with floral aromas such as Mimosa, Geranium and Lavender. Single note fragrances are my thing; one of the reasons I love Jo Malone so much (no tangled notes or barely discernable ‘fruity’ dry downs); but while the flower notes are the predominant ones, Demeter have gone with crowd and introduced ‘a long, meandering journey from the top notes to the dry down’. How annoying – should fragrance be about long journeys? What’s wrong with wanting a rose perfume to smell of roses? With only 25,000 of each scent from each ‘vintage’ (think in wine terms here) you’ll have to wait til the following year’s vintage is available to stock up.

Please be assured that Vintage Naturals will be available in the UK, sooner rather than later, although the distribution is not yet settled. I can also assure you that while these are more complex than typical Demeter scents, you will not be disappointed with the single note focus. In Rosebush, for example, there is never a question but that the Rose is the predominant note, every step of the journey.
