Ok, if you don’t know this name already, then you certainly will by April. L’Oreal have taken a new brand under their wing (which might make it sound rather cosier than it really is!) – a fragrance from Maison Martin Margiela, entitled Untitled. Martin Margiela is a Belgian designer whose brand Maison Martin Margiela is the epitome of anti-branding; clothes don’t carry a label, all workers wear white, and the office is entirely white. Ranges include shoes, eyewear, jewellery, accessories and clothing – and now perfume. However, a little research on the internet tells me that Martin Margiela is no longer a part of Maison Martin Margiela. But, it appears his ethos lives on. So, the entire concept is about keeping a blank canvas in order to let creativity come more readily – which is where the fragrance comes in. Untitled is a kicking green scent, two years in conception, with interesting and different ingredients. Galbanum (floral, woody, very green), Lentisque (bitter green, fern) and Incense Resin (ambery and oriental) combine together to make a unisex fragrance that isn’t defined by stereotype and in their words, ‘can be worn by anyone, anywhere’. Conceptually, I like this idea – I haven’t smelled the scent yet so I can’t really say if it translates, but I think this is going to be one heck of a big launch. What also adds up to a whole heap of beans to those in the fragrance know is that the perfume was created by Daniela Andrier who has some winners under her belt already – Gucci by Gucci, Opium, Armani and several for Prada, so she is no small fry in the world of fragrance.
