MUA: Makeup Artist Academy Review

Sold out of Superdrug, the Makeup Artist Academy (MUA) range is something of an eye opener. With every item costing £1, I was fully expecting to get make up that behaves like it costs £1! I was given two eye shadow samples – one slate grey with a light shimmer, and a gorgeous irridescent popping purple colour (Shade 9 Pearl), and started to use them with trepidation. Knowing that the colour had to last all day, I used Urban Decay Potion Primer underneath.

The formula is surprisingly soft, and plenty of Shade 9 (top row, second along in the picture) lifted easily onto my brush. The colour didn’t translate as vividly as it looks in the pan, but looked a decent enough colour on the lids. It was easily buildable, and it stayed pretty well all day long.

I’m amazed at the quality for £1. Okay, it doesn’t have that luxe, triple milled kinda feel but it’s certainly not any different to many more expensive brands. MUA is extremely impressive, and I’m thinking that when you neeeeeed a colour fix, but payday is miles away, this would tick that box very nicely indeed.

The greeny red brown colour is amazing. Looks EXACTLY like Club from MAC. Think its shade 12, but may be wrong. Lasts pretty well but needs UDPP, but then I need UDPP for all eyeshadows, no matter how much they cost. Had loads of people comment on it when I wear it, and am very happy when I can say ‘Cost me one quid!’

  2. I love this range!

I have loads of their eyeshadows and use them when I am trying new colours for nights out. Perfect for wearing for a couple of hours. Price is amazing!

  3. I have a couple of the eye shadows and one of the lip glosses and I was impressed. It was more than I was expecting after only paying £1.
Also, some of the colours are exact dupes for some “Famous” by Sue Moxley colours. I’m happy :-)

I’ve got a few eye shadows and they are impressively highly pigmented. There are one or two that are a bit duff but overall, the outcome is very good and just for £1! Fabulous!

I found these extremely greasy – there’s a high mineral oil content in them and it really shows, especially when you apply with your fingers as I do. Still, for £1…
