Usually I steer clear of ‘smile enhancing gloss’, knowing them to be a major fail in making any difference to the look of your teeth. There is only so much a blue-toned gloss can do and the entire tooth whitening illusion is exactly that, an illusion if you’re trying to use lipgloss to do it. However, this clever little thing from Bourjois contains a tooth brightening gel at one end of the dual end product that you paint onto your teeth. It’s on a doe’s foot applicator and gives an immediate effect using white focus (their words, not mine) pigment. I can’t say I was immediately mistaken for Tom Cruise, but I think there was a little ‘lift’. The lipgloss has indeed got the blue tones in the six shade line-up – there’s a lovely nude shade that has my name on it – Beige Tapis Rouge – and while I am still sceptical about these tones doing anything much in the way of enhancing tooth colour, they’re pretty lovely shades running from clear, through pinks to taupes. I love the innovation of this. Smile Enhancing Gloss launches on 5th October for £8.99.

One last thing: see the lady in the pic above? Is it just me or is that the manic smile of someone who could just as easily be about to burst into tears but hasn’t quite decided which.. you know, that slightly ‘too’ hysterical laughter…?
