Dior cosmetics haven’t been around for as long as you might think. Dior’s first fragrance came in 1947 with Miss Dior followed by a set of eight lipsticks in 1955 – the colours were named by Christian Dior himself and included Rouge Dior and Rose Bonheur.
This fab Vogue ad was scanned by Vintage expert, MissPeelPants , who is also a very talented illustrator. I’m trying to work out what the row of lipsticky looking things are – they must be sticks for eyes – and it turns out that pastel yellow eyes are absolutely nothing new! In fact, this 1969 collection is very similar to the spring/summer shades we are seeing now, forty plus years later.
I’m heading off to Paris tomorrow to see some Dior newness so I thought it was fitting that I have a look back before going forward.
