I’ve just been sent a big bag of Essence make-up – it’s launched into the UK in six branches of Wilkinsons so far. I’ve always thought Essence would do really well in the UK because, for a budget brand, it presents beautifully. Just because something is cheap and cheerful doesn’t mean it should be bland. So, without knowing UK prices (I will give some Euro examples) I’ve swatched a few pieces.
The Essence selection is vast so I’ve pulled out one or two stand-out items, including the Sun Club Shimmering Bronzer Powder – like some premium brands, it gives you a helping hand to pick out the right shade by indicating skin tone – this particular shade is suited to Brunettes. It costs EU2.95 and there are several versions of bronzing powders, including matte.
A mix here of Silky Touch Blush, EU2.45, Irresistible Smokey Eye, EU2.75 and Eyeshadow, EU1.55. As you might expect, they don’t have the strongest pigments, but they are buildable, but they do need good blending.

They really come to life in artificial light – they’re looking a little flat in the daylight picture. However, given the prices, I like this range for just doing something different – making the initial product look pretty and enticing and not just relying on the price as a draw. You can’t really complain at these prices – you aren’t getting some secret premium make-up here – you’re getting a good, basic range with plenty of colour options that won’t cost you a fortune to keep up with beauty trends.

I love Essence & normally stock up when I’m in Europe. Im thrilled that they’re launching in the UK. I have quite a few of their eyeshadows & nail polishes. Very well priced.

I used to buy Essence all the time when I lived in Switzerland and it’s a great range – I highly recommend their eye pencils.
The gel eyeliner is highly recommended, at least as good as MACs and a fraction of the price.
I live in Canada and have noticed how super cheap Essence is at Shoppers Drug Mart. The Express Dry Drops are great for no-smudge nail polish. I will be trying more of their products!
I think their nail polishes are horrible (at least they were for me), I wouldn’t bother if I were you. Some of the limited editions are quite interesting though. 🙂
