Twenty five years after its foray into beauty with Kabuki inspired tools, Japonesque has branched into colour – and oh! It’s beautiful. It’s launching on Friday into John Lewis (I’ll give my top picks on Thursday in case you want to try any of it). The range is comprehensive – everything from foundations and powders to glosses and mascaras… and all gorgeously packaged. I love packaging so it’s interesting to note that no one product’s internal packaging is the same.
To create the effect on the compacts, raw gel beads are heated together and merge (much like wax beads would) – at the end of the production line, gel pigment is dripped in creating the swirl effects above, and also creating a different pattern on each item.
Inside, what you see is what you get – colour from pan to skin is true and the pay off is that perfect mid point – not so much you end up with clown eye but enough that you have something to work with. That’s quite a feat.
Above is the Velvet Touch Eye Shadow Duo in 03 and you can see what I mean about pan to skin being true.
I have to admit to having an early favourite – these Pro Performance Lip Lacquers are fabulous! They have such a good pay-off in a creamy formula – not glossy really, more of a colour bomb sheen.
The shades above are 08 (red) and 03 (peachy-pink) with a brush applicator and not a doe’s foot and come in 8 shades.
The Japonesque Colour Pro Performance Lipsticks remind me of sushi rolls for some reason! They’re so pretty.
There are 12 shades of Japonesque Pro Peformance Lipstick – they’re creamy with excellent pigment, but again, at the perfect point of not over-delivering.
Prices start at £12 for an eye pencil and go up to £24 for a Velvet Touch Shadow quad (good value, I think). I can’t wait to start seeing reviews of this across the blogosphere.
