Maybelline Color Elixirs have been out for a little while Stateside, but they’re heading our way pretty soon (date to be confirmed). The first thing to notice is that they’ve got that lipstick shaped fill inside the plastic holder – first done (I think) by Dior and a really good way to give a visual message of lipstick, even though Maybelline Color Elixirs are balmy gloss.

They’ve got a super soft doe’s foot applicator, which is flexible and bendy, made with angora so it contributes to the whole ‘smooth’ element.

Shades are semi-sheer and the texture is exactly like a very liquid balm. Maybelline Color Elixirs feel extremely cushiony on the lip – they’re described as three in one – colour, gloss and balm. They’re actually quite hard to explain because they are so soft and plushy on the lip, like a luxy balm minus the waxy feel, but look like a high gloss once on. The coating, once on the lip, looks plumping even though there are no plumping elements to it and it’s reminding me a little of the new plumping or ‘gel effect’ nail polishes in concept – fatter in texture is the only way I can put it! Shades from left to right are: Signature Scarlet, Rose Redefined, Petal Plush, Hibiscus Haven, Blush Essence and Nude Illusion.

I genuinely like these – the texture is a new one to me and noticably different from other lip products – they really have a very luxurious feel to them – if I’d done a blind test, I’d assume Maybelline Color Elixirs were from the top end of the market.

Not sure on price yet but I’ll add in as soon as I get it.

NB: The term angora for the wand is Maybelline’s description only – it is not made from angora, but synthetic fibres.
